BBC - Our Cozy Read for Winter and Our First Book Curator

BBC - Our Cozy Read for Winter and Our First Book Curator

As the leaves turn golden and the air grows crisp (or if you live in humid tropical climates like I do - it's okay we can still enjoy and replicate the vibes as best as we can), we at Beda Book Club are getting ready for the season ahead. Just imagine yourself all wrapped up in a cozy blanket, sipping a warm cup of TCM tea, with a captivating book in hand. We have just the book for that.

Following the resounding success of our recent Beda Book Club Trivia Night, we're so thrilled to announce our BBC's Cozy Winter Read, a carefully chosen title to keep you entertained and even inspired for the remainder of 2024.

But there's more! We've been busy working behind the scenes, planning exciting activities for you. From thought-provoking and nuanced discussions, to our staple trivia night quizzes, we're so excited for you to see the activities we have waiting for you.

So, get cozy in your favourite reading nook, brew yourself a comforting beverage, and get ready for for the upcoming months ahead.

Meet Natalie - Our BBC Curator

First things first, here's a warm introduction to Natalie! Also known as @anattynook on instagram, Natalie is Beda Book Club's first ever book curator.

"I’m an avid reader with a penchant for rambling on a tangent, I hope to encourage readers to think more critically about everyday issues one book recommendation at a time."

"When I’m not reading books, I like to spend my time at museums or attending arts festivals. I am a proud cat mom of a sassy tortie kitty, I enjoy reading tarot cards for myself and friends and I also love geeking out about coffee."

Major thanks to Natalie for helping us pick our Winter read for Beda Book Club. Look forward to future discussions on different topics and themes surrounding the book!

Natalie also has her own bookstagram where she goes into depth in her book reviews. Her page is full of interesting books if you want more Natalie-approved book recommendations!

Our Winter Book

My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante

Natalie's Pick - "Why I Chose this Book"

"My Brilliant Friend explores themes of female friendship through childhood to adulthood. It touches on personal identity and also social issues, told in an emotionally affecting & captivating way."

- Natalie

My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante is a captivating story of lifelong friendship, rivalry, and the complexities of growing up.

Set in a vibrant and gritty neighborhood of Naples, this book follows two girls, Lila and Elena, as they navigate the challenges of family, ambition, and identity. Through the ups and downs of their relationship, Ferrante has this ability to weave a rich narrative of personal and social transformation.

Look forward to being immersed in a world of emotional intensity and unforgettable characters, where the bonds of friendship can both lift and break you.

We think this will be a memorable read for the last couple of months left of 2024 as we reflect on our own meaningful friendships and precious moments in our lives.

P.S 'My Brilliant Friend' is now also a major HBO drama series. Looks like it has really good reviews and I know what I'll be watching the next couple of weeks!

There's More This Winter Season

For this season, we are doing something special on top of our highly anticipated and loved trivia nights.

We want to give you guys a physical experience.

A Note From A Friend

We don't want to give too much away for now, but what we can tell you is that we will be having a collaboration with some of your favourite local cafes and bookstores to give you a physical, cute and interactive experience as we read our winter book together.

On theme with friendships, 'A Note From A Friend'  is a love note bulletin board, where you can write and pin an anonymous note.

Write a cute message to someone you care about, how you are feeling or something funny to cheer up a stranger.

Share a little of your positivity to the world.

Here's To The Cafe & Library Lovers

We hope that our winter book and "A Note From A Friend" will give you warmth this upcoming winter season. Stay tuned for future announcements and updates on Beda Book Club activities, such as the confirmed locations of 'A Note From A Friend', on our instagram @bedaskin

We look forward to reading this book together, and reading your love notes.

With love,

Rachel, Alia & Natalie
