What started as a simple hair accessory quickly became a must-have in your everyday essentials. The BEDA Signature Hair Claw isn't just any claw—it has reached cult status. We've heard the stories: people spotting it in real life all over Singapore, Malaysia, and even as far as Japan, London, and Los Angeles. It’s so iconic that many of you have proudly declared yourselves part of the "Claw Clip Cult."
But did you know?
Getting to the final version of BEDA was a much longer process than we expected. We went through countless suppliers, endless sampling rounds, and rigorous testing to make sure it was just right for you. Here’s how it all went down.

The Design Journey: More Than Just a Claw
Step 1: The Color & Material Hunt
Here are our first three prototypes when we were still figuring out the shape. Before we decided on shape and prioritised function, we focused on materials and colours.
We went through various prototypes and settled on swatch 4, 6, then 12. We immediately fell in love with the mother-of-pearl pattern and wanted to be specific with finding the perfect undertone.
But then... we stumbled upon some unexpectedly cute coloured versions, like SW06 and SW11. The pink? Adorable. And the green reminds me of a softer jade colour.
We frequently updated our instagram stories on @bedaskin to see all of your input throughout the process in real time, and you guys liked these colours too!
But we still settled for one of the off-white/cream shades. It gave our signature beda claw, well exactly what we named it; a classic signature look that's elegant and goes with every single outfit.
Step 2: Functionality First
A pretty claw is one thing, but if it doesn’t hold your hair properly, what’s the point?
We wanted the Beda Claw to work for everyone—thicker hair, longer hair, shorter hair, fine hair, curly hair—you name it. Our biggest pet peeve? A claw that slips out mid-day.
So, we made sure to give proper attention and time towards the grip mechanism. We went back and forth with our suppliers, adjusting the teeth placement to be closer together. This little tweak made a world of difference. The grip is strong, secure, and gym-proof. Many of you wear it for workouts, runs, and even tennis. It stays on, baby.
Step 3: The Logo & The Unicorn Supplier
At one point, we had gone through five different suppliers, each with a frustrating mix of right shape, wrong logo or right teeth, wrong color. Nothing was clicking. Until—finally—we found the one. The unicorn supplier who got everything right.
Step 4: Testing IRL
Before launching, we did what we always do—tested it out on real people.
We tried the Beda Claw on real people with various hair lengths and textures. We needed to make sure it worked for everyone. Only once we were sure, did we go into full production.
Step 5: Production Begins!
The production process itself was so interesting. First, the acrylic boards were cut before being molded into shape. At one stage, the unfinished pieces kind of looked like jellyfish, no?
Receiving the first shipment of a project is always such an exciting milestone to reach. To ensure the highest quality, we conduct random quality checks, inspecting each batch for colour consistency, grip strength, and durability.
