Food has always been how Asian mothers say what they don’t put into words. A bowl appears. What they made for us, their mothers made for them, and somewhere in that quiet repetition lives more wisdom than any wellness trend ever will.
Motherhood changes you in ways nobody fully prepares you for. You’re barely sleeping. Still figuring out this new version of yourself. And just when you’re starting to get your footing, handfuls of hair come out in the shower. Nobody warns you about that part.
This is the recipe we’re sharing for that moment. Three ingredients & takes just five minutes to prepare. Rich in Vitamin E, zinc & essential fatty acids - this isn’t a supplement or treatment, just food made thoughtfully, from ingredients our grandmothers already knew were good for us.
The Part Nobody Warns You About - Post Partum Hairloss, Dull Skin & Breakouts
If you’ve been through postpartum, you know. The shedding starts around three to four months in — right when you’ve already been through the hardest part and are just starting to feel like yourself again.
It is temporary. But it is genuinely distressing.
And the hair is just one part of it. The lack of sleep compounds everything — skin that looks flat and grey, breakouts that flare from stress and hormonal shifts, a complexion that no longer feels like yours. Your body has been through something significant. It shows up everywhere.
When your body is under significant physical stress (which childbirth absolutely is), it directs nutritional resources toward critical functions first. Your hair and skin are not considered critical. So it waits.
What you can do is give your body enough of the right building blocks such as protein, iron, zinc, Vitamin E, so that when your hormone levels stabilise, the regrowth has what it needs to happen.
This pudding won’t reverse postpartum hair loss overnight or instantly get rid of breakouts. No food will. But it will give your body the raw materials it needs to support regrowth and radiance; the protein, the minerals, the antioxidants in the most gentle, nourishing form possible.
Why Black Sesame is Special
Black sesame has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries, long before anyone was talking about Vitamin E serums or biotin supplements. In TCM, it nourishes the kidneys and liver, the organ systems believed to govern both hair growth and skin health.
Modern science has since caught up. Black sesame is one of the richest plant sources of Vitamin E - an antioxidant that supports a healthy scalp environment and protects skin cells from oxidative stress. It’s also high in zinc, which regulates oil production and supports skin repair, iron for that lit-from-within glow, and essential fatty acids that strengthen both hair follicles and your skin barrier.
One ingredient. Working quietly on everything at once. Very TCM. Very BEDA.

What You’re Actually Eating
Black sesame paste: rich in Vitamin E, zinc, iron, and essential fatty acids. In TCM, one of the most revered ingredients for nourishing the kidneys and liver, which are the organ systems believed to govern both hair and skin health. The deep black colour signals high levels of anthocyanins, protective antioxidants that support the scalp and defend skin cells against oxidative stress.
Silken tofu: a complete protein, providing all nine essential amino acids your body uses to rebuild hair structure, support your skin barrier, and repair cells. In TCM, tofu is cooling and yin-nourishing, which helps calm the body during physically demanding life stages like postpartum recovery, when both skin and hair need the most rebuilding.
Honey: natural antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that benefit both the gut and skin. Gentle on blood sugar, which matters more than people realise because blood sugar spikes are a known trigger for hormonal breakouts.
Goji berries (optional, but encouraged) - a classic TCM longevity food, rich in beta-carotene and Vitamin C. Beta-carotene converts to Vitamin A in the body, supporting skin cell turnover and that lit-from-within glow. Vitamin C supports collagen production and scalp circulation. Another thing your grandmother probably kept in her kitchen & now you know exactly why.
