BEDA Turns 4, Bringing Back Third Spaces & Book Club Hang Recap

BEDA Turns 4, Bringing Back Third Spaces & Book Club Hang Recap

There’s something about a third space—a place that exists outside of work and home, where connection feels effortless, where conversations flow, and where strangers become something closer to friends.

It used to be so much more common before. A favorite bookstore, a tucked-away café, a park bench that always seemed to find the right people sitting on it. Now, especially after the pandemic, it's noticeably disappearing, fading into the edges of a world that prioritises efficiency efficiency over creativity and the slow building of genuine human connection.

I often find myself looking for a third space, and I think you might be too.Our community events have been our way bridging the gap and creating a third space for you guys.

What is A Third Space (And Why You Should Have One)

You know that place that isn’t home nor work, but a place where you can just be comfortable, have fun & meet new people?

The First place is home—the space where you live alone or maybe alongside family, whether it’s a spouse, children, or in-laws. It’s where you return each night, where relationships—good or complicated—are constant and deeply familiar. Or perhaps it's a place of solitude. A place that can feel lonely or a maybe it's a place where you can comfortably be alone.

The second place is where you work. With remote jobs becoming more common, this space has evolved, but at its core, it’s wherever you go—physically or virtually—to do your job and interact in a professional setting. With working form home being increasingly more common, the need of a distinctive third space has been more important then ever.

Now, the third space is where life happens in between. It’s a place that doesn’t demand productivity or obligation—just presence. In a world that moves fast, where home and work often blur into one, third spaces remind us that connection isn’t something we schedule; it’s something we stumble into, in the right place, with the right people. And when those spaces start to disappear, so does something essential—a sense of belonging beyond what we have to do and where we have to be.

About Last Weekend

Our latest IRL book club hang in Singapore was everything we hoped for—warm, lively, and filled with the kind of energy that makes strangers feel like old friends.

Held at Stacked, a space that already felt like a dream living room, but the real magic was in the people. The warmth radiating off everyone who showed up wasn’t just felt—it lingered, turning a beautiful space into something that truly felt like home.

We collaborated with Rish from Rish’s Book Club, sipped on the most delicious Book Club Matcha from Matcha Masta, and thanks to our incredible sponsors, had some of the best prizes up for grabs. Of course, our trivia tradition made its IRL debut, bringing out the competitive (but always generous) spirit in everyone.

And like always, it was the best time. Because Beda Girls just get it. There’s an ease, an effortless kind of connection, where you don’t have to explain yourself to be understood. It’s what makes these spaces feel so special, and why we can’t wait to do it all over again.

Wholesome Connections

Over 60 of you showed up, many coming solo, ready to meet new people, to step into something familiar yet new.

One of you had actually  just moved back from New York and came specifically to find community, a feeling of belonging in a city that had once been home. The courage it takes to step out of your comfort zone to come to a hangout alone takes guts, which makes it even more special how our community has become a safe space for so many.

We started the evening with friendship bingo—simple, nostalgic, and an instant icebreaker. Name tags turned strangers into names, conversation cards sparked silly and also thoughtful chats. And then, the trivia.

Our iconic book club trivia is always the highlight, and this time was no different. Experiencing it together IRL was the vibe we had always hoped it would be when we started this book club.

We asked everyone to group up—five or six to a team, a mix of personalities and reading tastes coming together over shared knowledge (or lucky guesses). Answer sheets swapped hands for marking, and of course, we had two teams with the same score and had to find a solution.

We obviously had to deal with the tiebreaker the only way possible — a sing off. But like I said, the community is so wholesome because they decided to just share the first place gifts. How cute.

Our Cozy Corner Of The Internet

It really does feel like we’re building our own little cosy Beda universe - you guys stepped out of your comfort zones to meet IRL, helped design and test our products, even creating a whole claw cult on your own.

Everything was shaped by you and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Thank you for your warmth, your quirky thoughts & your openness.

What's Next For You & BEDA?

It has been 4 years together. Connecting with you guys—both online and in person—has been the best part, especially with community events like our Book Club Hangs. Last year was a big one, we have so many new faces and we hope you will find a home here with us.

So what's next? More of your favs, but always better than the last. Our most recent additions to our merch have already been so loved by all of you.

Good things take time, and we will always make sure that what we're making is something we truly stand behind and has been tested and approved by you guys. We're making really great progress on our Radiance Cream and bringing MATE back better than ever before. Plus, things are getting glossy. Really glossy. We've been getting DM's on what's on Rachel's lips in some of our IG stories and trust that we're making an even better version for you.
